this is probably a dumb question, but I,ll ask it anyway!
Is there any way to open an Excel spreadsheet document without having the Excel program?

Yup...

You'll just need a compatible program which recognizes a .xls file. I'd suggest checking out the free productivity suite OpenOffice, which is pretty comparable to Microsoft Office but at a much more affordable cost.

Hope this helps,
John

Try double clicking on it. If you have Microsoft Works Spreadsheet in your computer it will open it. If you take a Microsoft works Spreadsheet product and save it as an Excell product, then you can open it at work with Excel

Hope this helps.
