What actually happens when you attempt to open then would have been valuable information. However, when you down load MacRar is arrives in the form of a compressed file (.sit) (MacRar 2.5 f.sit)
Your machine, assuming you are using Safari, should have told you that this download contains a program.
Once downloaded, go to wherever it was downloaded to, and you have full control over that, and double click it. If the system says that it does not know what to do with it, then it is highly likely that you do not have Stuffit Expander installed.
This is FREE from http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html
Download the FREE version, you don't need anything else, and see how you get on.

I know this is probably just crap, but, all i want to do really is extract this film my friend gave me thats in a dvdrip divx (what ever that means). I have done this before on a pc and it was with WinRar. They aren't in a Par 1 or Par2 file so this program might not be right. When I tried Mac Rar it was just for classic version.
Thanks so much for your help.

smartlydia, you remember that from the old days of windows media, u get this film you want to view like the divx format (soo many of different types) and suddenly you are on google looking for a codec to be able to view something. The mods on this forum or someone may be able to help you with those. I suppose you are now using Quick Time to view your video? I am using Panther 10.3.9 and stuffit came with it?...So far I havn't found anything that stuffit can't unzip?
It will be interesting to hear further on this since I am also relatively new to Mac products. I use RAR on my pc but so far stuffit is good enough for me on the Mac.

Ah hah, sucess was mine through the fine art of faffing and fiddling.
Through saving the files to Par in Mac Par and then using stuffit and finally sticking everything into the lovely VLC player.
Have you tried VLC. I always use it, seems the best.

A fine player, I used once due to a corruption of my Media Player and just got disgusted with it. I'll keep that one in mind thou...In case I run into glitches with QT...so far so good with it.

Thanks for the tip!
