Opening .DAT Files

I have a CD that is a VCD. I try to open it but it ask what to open it with it says it is a .DAT file.
I can never understand how this process works. Any suggestions?

If you don't like the one Bob suggested, you might try open the .dat files with window media player (I know ver. 6.4 and 7.0 will work). I personally uses powerDVD.

Thanks Art for the suggestion...that was the first thing I tried but did not work. Bob's idea work great.
