opening a website st startup

i tried to link a website in startup but the only thing that happens is the browser opens to a blank page.

how can i change this?

i use ff BUT

when I drag the link to the desktop/startup it uses my wife's default ie. So the link opens ie if i click on it.

However as I said, at startup only the ie browser opens and to a blank page
