by bently / March 15, 2005 10:24 PM PST

Using XP home, sp2, mozilla 1.7.5

Not sure which forum to use, so here goes...

Last 2 times I booted my computer, I got a popup box with the following....

Opening 0,1306,i=60739,00.swf

http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/6/

Open it with the default applicatin (ShockwaveFlash)

I click CANCEL when it pops up.

Any idea what this is?

Also is ShockwaveFlash a good thing to have???

Thanks

Ben

Time for a spyware attach
by AussiePete / March 15, 2005 11:15 PM PST

This is the site which is responsible for the popup
http://www.ziffdavis.com/
Ziff Davis is well known and is just a harmless marketing company among other things (if there is such a thing!!). Suggest you run a spyware/adware program to flush it out.
Shockwave flash is probably something you should have if you brows the web as a lot of web site use it.
Suggest you run a spyware program to flush it out.

That did not help...

Thanks AussiePete

Ran UPDATED spybot, ad aware, Yahoo antispy, spyware blaster and AVG, again.

Nothing found.

Just shutdown Mozilla and restarted it. That box came up again.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

When does it popup?
by AussiePete / March 18, 2005 12:19 AM PST
In reply to: That did not help...

When you boot or load mozilla??
Check your startup folder as well as "startup" tab in msconfig.
Go threw the add/remove programs to see if you can find any program that look suspicious.
You could also do a search of the registry using "regedit" for the word "jiffdavis"
If it starts only when mozilla starts it could be a plugin (I dont use mozilla so cant help there).
Also do a text search of your hard disk stating with your mozilla folders.
Check the "events viewer" in systems administration for any associated error or warning.
Delete cookies and files in "internet options" and any other temp stuff associated with Mozilla.

Happy hunting

at a rough guess

you're using a browser without a 'flash' plug in...

the .swf is usually the 'moving' advert at the top of the page, if you right click and go to properties they are either .gif or you get a "about macromedia flash 7" box....

nothing to worry about Happy

i don't know about the file but shockwave is a good thing to have because lots of websites have animations that require flash

Opening 0,1306,i=60739,00.swf went away but ...
by bently / March 20, 2005 10:56 PM PST

Don't know what I did, but "0,1306,i=60739,00.swf" no longer pops up when starting Moz.

Did search on RegEdit and found the following...
ZiffDavisQualityBenchmark
ZiffDavisWinMarkBenchmark

I don't recall installing either of those since my last reformat and reinstall of XP.

Is there any reason to NOT delete them from RegEdit?

Thanks

Ziff Davies = ZDNet.com
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / March 21, 2005 3:36 AM PST

or he used to be.

Possibly a shockwave video downloaded from ZDNet? They have them sometimes for tech reports, etc.

There shouldn't be any problems removing those entries from your registry, but just in case, take a back-up of the registry first.

Good luck

Mark

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
