Hi
Here's more details. In windows vista at the top of the page you have options, like organize, open with these are a few of the options. If you click organize a list drops down amd you can choose. One choice would be select all. So the same with the the "open with" list. When you click "open with" it drops down a list of programs you can use to open the file or program your installing. One option is to "choose default" when you do it brings up a list of programs or you can "browse" to locate the program you want. What you choose the program in the lower left corner of that list is a box you can check to have that program applied it to all. The box is pre checked for you so you have to uncheck it. Sometimes that checked box is blocked and it just does when you click yes. When you do this most or alot of the icons will change to the same thing and when you click those icons now they open up not the program that was their before you changed the icon but only the program the icon is because the words below the icon will still say the program that was their. You can't do anything system restore doesn't work because it now will open with the program you choose for the "open with" selection. Even if you go in through the start menu and system restore the restore does nothing to this, all those icons on your desktop still show tne one that was used for the "open with" list.
Thanks for the help
