Question

Open dump files that are posted on computer help forums.

by cmmer31 / June 10, 2011 9:04 AM PDT

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
Model p6350 - Memory 6 GB - AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor
I have 7-zip to try to open someones dump file and I get this message.
Can not open file (name of file)' as archive.
I made exception in Firewall and Anti Virus.
I need something to be able to open someones dump file but I can't figure out what's needed.
I have this next part as written but I don't see why that should matter when i'm trying to read someone's dump file - .dmp

In the Control Panel - System Icon - Advanced System Settings -
Startup and Recovery - Settings - Write an event to the system log - Small memory dump - %SystemRoot%\Minidump

SDK and.Net Framework 4 download needed
by cmmer31 / June 11, 2011 12:41 AM PDT

Proffitt
In my past searches I had found the Microsoft web site you suggested.
You confirmed what I was afraid was my only solution to my problem.
SDK (winsdk_web.exe) download - 498 kb
When I download winsdk_web.exe and try to install I get a popup
(short version) that says I need to Install .Net Framework 4

I have dial-up Internet service.
.Net Framework 4 download time is almost 22 hours for dial-up.
I posted my first message because I was hoping for an easier solution
and I was unsure if downloading .Net Framework 4 would fix my problem
of opening someone's dump file from computer help forums.
I don't know if I can download for 22 hours without the file being corrupted.
Thanks for your help.

If your connection is that slow, why not ignore dump files?

I mean I've never found them useful in over 10+ years of using Windows.

What I found more useful is the make, model and story.

Your right, I just got started and didn't want to quit
until I finished what I started out to do.
I've had broadband and dropped it. Decided I
would rather have the $58.00 per month.
