Oops, changed battery on Ipod Mini...

Mar 20, 2009 7:38AM PDT

Everything went well (thanks to CNET video's) except, when using headphones/aux. input, nothing. In docking station/speakers, no problem. I've repositioned everything three times. I want to use it in my car- may have to buy a shuffle. Any suggestions?

ipod strictly disposable...

This doesn't answer your question, but I just need to vent.

Last weekend I finally found a replacement control wheel for the iPod mini I broke the connector on when I previously tried to fix this player.

In (say, 30 years, of fiddling with electronics) I have never seen such a fragile connector -- it's as if Apple booby trapped the product so you're forced to overpay them to fit a new battery.

Dammit if I didn't break the replacement connector too.

Binned the iPod, swore never to touch an Apple product again.

It's technical.

When I need to fix this one I use a magnifying lens at best and if I can't find the traces to the headphone jack I move to a microscope to trace the paths from the jack back to the printed circuit board and to the chips that drive the ear buds.

This is basic electronics repair work and sadly I'm finding many consider it too technical.

Such repair isn't for everyone but consider a place like ipodbattery.com and let them change the battery if you want someone that does this a lot.

I thought it may be technical. I could barely see the screws to change the battery much less following an IPod labrynth. I took a shot, only spent $8 to change the battery. I can still use it in the docking station for now.
