General discussion

ONLY target Al-Qaeda and known affiliates

May 11, 2006 2:11AM PDT

Yet MILLIONS of phone numbers?

How many terrorists in the USA?

Discussion is locked

I don't think that is the choice here...

Tell me how anyone's liberty is at stake. Except of course if the enemy wins.

May 15, 2006 8:18AM PDT

life or death?
you carry on like your not a target for terriosts.

your a minority as majority is ok with it so either leave usa get off phone .
as to life or liberty its earned not a right

which do you prefer life or death? simple question.

and i have no probs with the gov listening to my calls is that plain enough.

were at war dan what part of being at war dont you understand?
we se members who fought, and have had experiance will gladly explain it to you dan.

and the majority of the us people are in agreement with the spying so majority rules get it?
the few can whine and when time to vote try to elect there person to be in office.

An Al Quda and affiliates/associates makes a phone call, this call is intercepted. The NSA has the number of the person called, and the number of the caller. That makes 2 numbers. If they target all the numbers that the original 2 numbers contact those numbers are targeted

The President said they are targeting terrorists (which to me means not the general public) they have millions of TARGETS (phone numbers) are there millions of terrorists in the US?

If they somehow get MILLIONS of numbers and then sift, filter, dig, pick, compare, whatever method they are using that is NOT targeting

- Collapse -
No, they didn't HAVE to, Toni.
May 11, 2006 1:31PM PDT
Qwest passes on NSA spying.

And Google did the right thing earlier when asked for a random sample of customer e-mails (no links to Al-Qaeda needed!) The ''we're only targeting Al-Qaeda'' is a myth, Toni. The Bush Adminsitration/DOJ/ wants to use the pretexet of fighting terrorism to examine every single communication by every single American for evidence of violating any law they can think of. And if they ever decide to confiscate Americans' gold (as FDR did in the 30's, an outrage not reversed until the 70's), they'll know exactly who has it and come knocking to take it away...

Getting real tired of the Democrta LIES about this...
May 11, 2006 8:55PM PDT

Saw Senetors Leahy and Kennedy lying about it on the news, characterizing this as "spying on Americans." That is a LIE and they know it! I have already heard one news broadcast chatracterize it the same way.

It is clear that Leahy cares nothing about National Security at all. A true friend to our enemies. In an earlier, better day he would have been hanged by now.

Wihout my reading the whole discussion tree...

Let me take a stab at it.

Suppose, hypthetically, that the NSA has a record of numbers called, when and where they occured, both outgoing and incoming. There will be a kind of tree developed. If they determine there's enough information for looking into this further, they can find out names and who all is on the tree, with special interest given to international calls. They'll probably need a warrant for this, so they can trace all these previous communications during a specified period of time in order to determine who the bad guys might be in that tree, so they can swoop in and get any of them should they be bad, or else actively monitor certain conversations of persons of special interest in order to further develop a case, along with supporting information so they can dig further, hopefully with the cooperation of other countries so they can learn more about methods of transmitting information, structure of their organizations, and other pertinent data. Then, they can find out if any attacks are planned, if money is going to be sent and where, and from what source, as well as whether or not certain bad guys are going to be traveling so they can be watched or otherwise monitored.

I cannot tell you whether or not I work for the NSA. If I did, I would have to kill you. LOLOLOLOL!

NOT tracking my phone calls to the florist and seeing that I am sending flowers to my girlfriend rather than to my wife?

LOL! I doubt they care. Anyway, with millions of connections, all controlled by computer, I don't think they give a hoot who is playing around. I guess if it was during the cold war, and you were "somebody" (as in a VIP who 'knows things') then they might want to find out if the "other woman" was a Russian spy...

I have a hunch that al Qaeda doesn't have female spies...

the majority of the abuses of power come from the LOCAL and STATE levels.....how closely do you watch THEM?

Did you know that they are now trying to pass a new law that once deer season starts, it will be against the law to have a freaking bird feeder up because it attracts all those homeless deer to suburban areas, cause car wrecks, and all because construction has been wiping out the only territories they've had?

and it's the STATE legislators that are proposing it, hon....not the President.

Hi Dan,
May 15, 2006 7:50AM PDT

I'm sure Toni didn't mean it disrespectfully. I'm here to tell you she calls everyone "hon". Me, my hubby, her friends, the waitress or waiter at the restaurant.

Of course, it's entirely up to you to decide how you'd like to be addressed, I just wanted to let you know that's how she really talks, and was not a slam. Happy
