Only adm account locked with ltd privs in XP Pro

Have never heard of this happening.Laptop had 2 accounts. The pcowner adm account and a second adm account. The pcowner account was changed to a limited and then the second adm account was deleted. Now the only account available is a limited account. There is no welcome screen, just a log on box that reads User name:pcowner Password:. There is no need for a PW just press enter. If you go to user accounts, the only account is the owner account, which is limited. There is no Boot PW or System PW already checked. There is however an RUN DLL error on the desktop.ERROR in C:\DOCUMEN-1\pcowner\LOCALS-1\TEMP\typvxsrh.dll Missing entry:run Anyone ran into this before?Nothing on the web.Just one other guy saw it and he never got a solution.Bad part it was dated over a year ago.

There was a method to lock a machine down like that.

In reply to: Only adm account locked with ltd privs in XP Pro

It was one way and to fix it you would reinstall the OS. This is by design if you truly accomplished removing the last admin account.

-> The answer here is don't do that unless you are willing to live with your changes.

There was a method

First of all thank you for the quick reply. The laptop belongs to my friend's daughter. She bought it for her to use as entertainment (music, pictures, movies). As I continued to search I discovered in her limewire folder, she was sharing several Windows,Doc-Sett,MSOCache,and i386 files. Her AVG av shows she has 9 malware reports. My thinking is that there was an malware attack, panicked and somehow deleted her account(adm). My friend says her account was already changed to limited prior to laptop being locked.W/ the limited account my hands are tied.I thought of using Virus Total, but it won't help me to get an adm account.I understand why you won't divulge the method. You are correct in having to deal with changes.Could have been worse, only a small amount of pictures will be lost.

As Bob noted IF the admin account was truely deleted ...

In reply to: Only adm account locked with ltd privs in XP Pro

you reinstall and start over. (back up all data possible before doing that)

IF the admin account was not truely deleted you can get things corrected by booting the computer. When you see the logon screen change "pcowner" to Administrator then press the enter key. If you are logged on get busy creating another Admin account.

If that does not allow you to log on reboot and try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del TWICE and logging on as Administrator.

Truely deleted account

In reply to: As Bob noted IF the admin account was truely deleted ...

Thank you for your quick reply.Previous to posting for help,I had tried your suggestions.I even tried elevated privileges w/ MakeMeAdmin.cmd.Nothing works w/ the exception of pcowner w/o password.Under local users and groups, the only users available are Administrator and pcowner.Being limited I can't change any of the properties are add to administrative group. Can't even back-up(only a few pictures will be lost.Though I consider myself a novice,I can get around a Computer. This one just stumped me.The only thing left is to reinstall.
