online motherboard purchase advice

Apr 3, 2014 4:28PM PDT

My laptops motherboard is suspected to being toast after water damage and it's a decent laptop soo im thinking of repairing it. I have found some places online that sell it like Alibaba and random Chinese "suppliers". I say "suppliers" because my experience with dealing with Chinese sellers is that they are not reliable at best and sometimes run off with your money or send you things you didn't order. Has anyone purchased anything from Alibaba if so what has your experience been like? Other sites are buymotherboard.com, aliexpress.com. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark

Given the shops I've worked with must provide a warranty

They only buy from the maker. Expensive but when the client is demanding a warranty, you can't go astray. Sorry but rather than not reply I'd share what the shops do.

For home repair your average Joe takes the leap of faith on Ebay and such.

MOBO replacement
Apr 6, 2014 7:54AM PDT

I am not a computer shop but I have repaired computers, laptops primarily as a hobby. I have replaced motherboards to get them to work for friends and to upgrade for my own use. The important thing is to replace it with an exact replacement. I have used Ebay primarily or just Google the part number to find replacement sellers. My experience with Alibaba was enough to stay far far away from them. After trying unsuccessfully to return 2 items I, gave up. You will get a short replacement guarantee so make sure it is burned in well.

punishment. You "suspect" it's the motherboard then you going to buy from some company you got no faith of. and this is a laptop. All I can say is I hope you are a great technician. Good luck.
