So, here are some options.
1) Switch your cable box to component and run the hdmi's to your onkyo. use your optical cable for your cable box->receiver connection.
2) Ditch the 400 dvd changer because the blu-ray upconverts just like your player.
Fact: using your tv's optical output degrades the quality big time. those things are useless. You may even be better off with pro-logic. I would suggest re-routing your system like option 1. If you spent the money for the blu-ray, there is no reason it should take a back seat in terms of HDMI ports. Especially to something like a cable box that can run on component bumping it out of the way. Your receiver has the ability to upscale component inputs to hdmi outputs, so I would take advantage of that if I were you. (for the record, i have a 605)
Hi I have the onkyo 605 and just bought the sony blu-ray bdp-s350. i am currently running my hdmi from the blu- ray player directly into my samsung 40 inch tv. and using the optical out to send the audio to the receiver. my 2 receiver hdmi's currently are being used for my direct tv hd receiver and my sony 400 disc dvd changer. my question is I don't seem to be getting True hd or other advanced codex this way I can get DD and DTS. Does the sony sed true hd etc. through the optical connection and will the onkyo recognize and/or decode it in the receiver or does it have to go thru a hdmi connection Thanks
