Onkyo S9100THX vs TX-SR607 home theater dillemma

Hello Gurus,
A newbie here, with absolutely no knowledge of the finer points in home theater systems.
I am planning on buying my first surround sound system. Need your valuable insight in these two configs. They both meet my HDMI input needs and I don't really care abut the 7.1 vs 5.1 difference. If you have any better suggestions then my configuration, I'd love to hear it, with the reasoning behind that.

Test the speakers for sure

It's entirely possible that you will prefer one speakers over the other. My gut feeling is the Energy separates might sound 'brighter', but that sort of evaluation is nearly always a personal observation . Onkyo does provide a very good value for such starter systems. I see both as good choices though.
