Question

One Keyboard and Mouse for 2 seperate PC's

Aug 7, 2017 7:37AM PDT

Hello all.
I've got a 4 monitor set up at work and I'm looking for a cable to create a sort of bridge between my two seperate pc's. I've got three monitors hooked up to one laptop on a docking station, and one monitor hoooked up to the other laptop on a docking station.
I've been digging around on the internet for the past few hours looking for an answer to my dilemma and everyone always resorts to the KVM switch which isn't what my other coworkers have on their setups. They're able to move their mouse over from one screen to the other without having to switch one off.
Out IT guy knew what these cables were called but he got laid off before I could ask him what this cable was called. Everyone at work just calls it a bridge because they've got no idea what it is called.
Not having this cable is making work more difficult and I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. Another thing is we're not allowed to install software on our devices without admin approval which we're not allowed to have, so that means no synergy or mouse without borders.

Quite the challenge.

Since this is a company issued system with the mouse moving like that on (this is the key to your fix) a company approved setup, your new IT must deliver what others have.

I don't know of any "cable" only solution. I always had to install an app to do this.

Answer
extended screen settings

You have to set up your display for an dual monitor extended screen. In past two video cards were used, but some motherboards today allow two monitors, especially if the onboard can be combined with a single added video card.

As for doing it with two computers without a KVM, I'd guess they were using some software like TeamViewer and since a "bridge" was mentioned, possibly through the LAN ports.
