Once upon a time

I had a CD player & AM/FM stereo that would hold 5 CD?s and you could program it to randomize both the disc and the track. (It might start with disc 4 and track 3 and then move to disc 1 and track 7 and would continue like that until it was shut down.) This was an inexpensive piece of equipment. I have tried to google this, but get nowhere. Does anybody know of a player like this? I have forgotten the manufacture of the one that I had.

The only one I've seen with that feature
by mjd420nova / December 29, 2008 11:09 AM PST

RCA made an all in one unit that had that feature, I couldn't figure out why they added it as I couldn't imagine a use for it. I do believe that it is no longer available under the RCA name but maybe Erickson makes one as they bought all of the RCA factories and product line when GE bought them back in the early 90's.

you can probably still be able to get a 5 disc player. I have a 5 disc cd player by magnavox that has shuffle play.

Radio not that important
by The ancient one / December 29, 2008 8:15 PM PST

but does this shuffle between discs as well as between tracks. I have a radio/CD player that will shuffle within a disc but I have to manually press the skip disc button to go to the next disc. Thanks for the quick feedback

I can only offer why they no longer randomize the CD disks. The tracks are fine. But as you may have noticed the disc change is many seconds long and the hardware is possibly of the cheap stuff so it would not last long.

There is a good reason you won't find this type of gear anymore.

-> Moving to today's technology I can with my PC and a 20 buck 8 Gigabyte USB memory stick and a 12 dollar MP3 player do exactly what you asked for without all the CDs. I haven't tried the 8GB stick on that 12 dollar player yet but the 2GB stick worked fine. Later next year I'll try the big stick.
