General discussion

Once again, appalled but in no way surprised

"It's as sick as people who stole things out of the place," Firefighter Tommy Fee, of Queens Rescue Squad 270, told the Daily News in Thursday editions. "The image of firefighters at ground zero should not be used for this stuff, for politics."

I hadn't expected bush's first campaign act to be the exploitation of tragedy, but I guess I was just being optimistic. He might as well have superimposed an image of himself sitting on the flag draped stretcher, grinning, waving his arms, and yelling 'vote for me', while his little legs swing playfully.

And your words

"His shoes are stained with the blood of the 9-11 victims he's piling up to use for his campaign."

aren't politically motivated? not an attempt to demonize a political candidate? not trying to rouse emotional response directed against Bush?

Sorry, seems to negate your outrage, IMO.

Think back, Dave...
Mar 4, 2004 8:37PM PST

Dave, think back to the Barry Goldwater years and the anti-Goldwater ad called "Daisy". Note to those who don't remember: Basically a little girl playing "loves me-loves me not" with a daisy. Audio segue into a countdown, then video cut into nuclear bomb explosion.
Interesting trivia about it, it ran but once, then the news media picked up on the contoversy over it and gave it no end of "free" air time. Shades of Apple Computer's "1984" ad.

Oh BS Dave!

The KEY POINT is that some (total unknown) do not "approve" of the ads while others (again total is unknown) do approve of the ads content and find NOTHING distasteful not distressing about them.

YOU are trying to KEY on a disgruntled minority and it won't work.

There was nothing callous in the ads nor, except by really stretching your imagination, were they politicizing the attacks--they were pointing out simply that we were attacked and he responded as a president should. If you think that is politicizing then you apparently also are afraid that you already know that Kerry in the same position would still be trying to hold talks and have the UN do something.

You can't say that
Mar 7, 2004 10:59PM PST

You admit your ignorance as to the number of those who are offended yet call them a minority at the same time. As far as you know those who are not offended are a minority.

Mar 8, 2004 1:08AM PST

numkbers pro or con have never been offered yet YOU attempt to indicate that ALL the "Victims" are "offended" knowing full well that your position is FALSE and without any viable basis in fact.

The POINT is that it is an outside organization funded by Teresa Hines Tides Foundation that is making the waves FOR POLITICAL REASONS and for your own hypocritical reasons you try to avoid this and continue to try to perpetrate the lie.

The POINT is that you are wrong and more than a bit of a hypocrit in your stand and words.

Once again, you are out of touch
Mar 8, 2004 1:16AM PST

YOU are the one that tried to state that the MAJORITY of victim's families support bush's OFFENSIVE use of the images while at the same time you ADMIT YOUR IGNORANCE of what the numbers are. I have NEVER stated that the percentage is of ANY importance. That would be crass calculus of human suffering, indeed.

and stated exactly that long ago BUT in every story so far the "victims" against and the "Victims" for are in a dead heat but the individual firefighters, contrary to the Union's position, are strongly in favor and that tips the scales to those in the majority being in favor of and approving of the ads.

Your ignorance by failing to observe that and accept it is what is holding you back.

Considering ONLY the facts...
Mar 4, 2004 3:50AM PST

it is something that requires mentioning in view of the many comments and retractions and adjustments Kerry made regarding his support for then against then for then against any actions resulting from the attacks.

Bush acted, Kerry by his statements would likely STILL be waiting for something.

Bush immediately pushed for more intelligence assets while Kerry's long history of gutting funding for intelligence and military is part of what caused any intelligence foul ups.

Whether you like it or not, approve or not, it is a very legitimate issue and something the short attention span public needs in the fore of their thoughts throughout the campaign.
