Beachvan,

Have you checked the "Device Manager" to determine the onboard drivers that are already present? Searching Google comes up with a variety of Foxconn sites and includes this particular site for Realtek audio drivers:

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/jsp/download.htm

If Realtek is the correct driver, (you'll need to verify that), then you might also check the Realtek site for something newer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Grif,
I just installed windows xp, but no audio. I think these drivers would fix my problem, but, for some reason, after downloading them, Device Manager cant find the driver on my desktop or my zip drive even though they exist both places. I get, "The location cannot be reached, doesn't exist" message.
Any suggestions as to how to get the Device Mgr to see the downloaded driver?

Thanks, Kent

Kent, First, Give Us Some Info....

Is this XP installation an Upgrade from a previous version?

Please tell us the EXACT Sound device that you are using, plus the driver version number and date. (RIGHT click on "My Computer", choose "Properties", then select the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" button, then click on the + sign beside the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" listing, then RIGHT click on the specific sound device listed there, choose "Properties", then click on the "Driver" tab.) Give us the device provider, the version number and date.

And remember, when you finally get the correct driver downloaded to your computer, you should double click on the "exe" file, which usually unzips the driver to a folder on the hard drive. Sometimes, there is then an automatic installer which installs the driver. Other times, you'll need to press the "Update Driver" button in "Device Manager", and "Browse" to the folder on the hard drive where the .inf file should allow for the correct install of the new drives.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, Grif.
I did a 'clean' install, wiping out my previous Windows ME and all hard drive data. Unfortunately, the device provider is "unknown" the version number is "not available" and the date is "not available" according to "Device Manager". I did unzip and click on the downloaded driver and it probably is not the right one. The company I purchased the computer from is out of business, and the only info I was able to get is that it is an onboard sound. Physically, its a small metal housing (pink backing) apx. 1 1/2" wide x 1" deep x 1/2" tall that says "Foxconn" on the side.
If necessary, I could probably purchase a cheap soundcard if nothing else works. Thanks, Kent

Kent,

Your solution is probably the best option. Running the other Foxconn driver was "hit or miss". If nothing is listed for the onboard information, it may be a faulty sound device anyway. The new card will have it's own drivers and shouldn't be any trouble to install.

Hope this helps.

Grif, I appreciate your help. I will go that route. I had another idea to take the sound from my other computer, and it turned out to be the same as the first...Oh well! Have a nice day! Kent
