Question

On Start - Alert Operating system in single channel mode

Aug 8, 2013 2:16AM PDT

I am getting the follow alert message since the fast few days when i start my desktop.

"Alert Operating system in single channel mode
please populate memory in matched sets"

When i run the diagnostic test there are no errors and when set up under memory option the channel is on Single mode and cannot be changed.

Can anyone please help me as to why this alert message is being displayed and do i need to make any configuration changes under Set Up.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
It's a badly written message.

That message is from the BIOS on boot and means EXACTLY what it says. There is no ERROR here. It's cajoling the owner that better performance can be had.

-> ALL diagnostics should pass and frankly running diagnostics is a waste of the tech's time.

There is no configuration to change in any settings menu or BIOS. Again, it's telling you exactly what to do.

If it worked before. Power off, open box, good time to use the canned air, then check if the memory sticks are fully seated. If you don't do this work, watch videos about installing memory on youtube.
