Olympus Smart Media Card

Nov 14, 2004 11:45AM PST

I would like to know how long a Smart Media Card can be used. Does the quality of pictures decrease with the age of the card?

All Smart Media cards are manufactured to a common specification.

If they are not damaged in any way, their life should exceed the life of the memory that is in your computer.

I used a 128 MB Smart Media card in my old camera for 2 years. It never let me down on picture quality or had any type of problem. I quite literally took thousands of pictures on that card. I hope this helps.

My Olympus smart media card is 3yrs. old and still going strong, never had a problem with it. In fact I am still using the original Olympus recharchable batteries I bought 3yrs ago and they are just as good and I do take a lot of photos with my Olympus.

Smart media image quality

Smart media cards are digital in nature so there is no degrading of the image; it either works or it does not. They can get corrupted by trips through the washer / drier, xrays via airport screening, or stepping on them.
