olympus evolt e300 and metering

Apr 9, 2005 12:19PM PDT

I'm looking at buying a cheap digital SLR or or nice SLR like camera, (like Sony's dsc f82Cool and the new olympus evolt is at the top of my list. In cnet's review they say that metering novices might steer away from the olympus, and as a metering novice, I wonder if its really that big of a deal. Should I go for the SLR like Sony instead? Any advice?

Another question then, I'm still a beginner when it comes to photography, but I want to have control of the pictures I take, control over focus and aperture and the like. I know an SLR would be open ended enough and have all the features I need as my familiarity with photography increases. Would the non SLR Sony f828 keep me from having the complete control, or is it close enough to an SLR to provide all the features I will grow to need?

Non DSLR
Apr 12, 2005 1:18PM PDT

There are a group of cameras at the high end of the non-DSLR:

Canon PRO1
Konica Minolta A2 or A200
Nikon 8700 or 8800
Olympus C8080
Sony F828

These are top of the line and the thing to have if you do not want a DSLR.

All of these cameras are 8 megapixel.
All have a full set of manual controls.

One area that they do not measure up to the DSLR is manual focus. They have the ability to manual focus but it is not as easy to use as it is on a DSLR lens.
