1. It should work, since it is made specifically for SmartMedia cards.
2. You need to format the card if you want to erase the picture files on it and reuse the card again.
3. You should format the card when it is in the camera. Do not format the card with the computer. Consult your camera's manual. If you do not have the manual, you can download it from Olympus:

I have an old Olympus D-340R (1.3 megapixel) digital
camera that uses a 8 MB 3.3 volt SmartMedia card. I have a Dell Dimension E 510
that is running Windows XP. I would like to get a USB card reader for my old
camera but I'm finding some conflicting advice. I have three questions....
