Olympus Camedia C-765 White balance problem

May 5, 2005 2:07AM PDT

Many of my outdoor pictures frequently have a purple cast. I have adjusted the white balance but still have a problem. Is this inherent to the camera?
Also does anyone know if there is any advantage to the proprietary XD cards? They are so much more expensive than others.
Thanks for your help.

Do the color correction back on the computer.

Are you sure it's not blue?

Too much blue would mean the white balance is set for tungsten (incandescent).

How is the photo being viewed?

There are two white balance adjustments in the Picture Menu. Check the user's manual and see which is best for you.

Remember if you have "All Reset" set to Yes (Setup Menu). The white balance will reset to Auto each time you turn-on the camera.

...............

XD media cards are the invention of Olympus and Fujifilm.

Just their way of getting a piece of the pie.
Just like Sony and the memory stick.

I am not getting good close-up pictures!!
May 26, 2005 9:58AM PDT

I recently purchased an Olympus C765 and am mostly pleased with the camera except I am having problems getting good close-up pictures. I set it to the close-up tab and when I take the picture it looks great in the viewing window but the picture comes out too bright and I have tried several taking several pictures and they all come out the same. With mode set on auto the pictures comes out great, I just can't get the hang of close-ups. Does anyone have any suggestions for setting my Olympus C765 so it will take good close-ups?

Close-ups

I wish you have explained more about what you mean by close-ups.

If you are talking about portraits:
...avoid flash - use some type of dim portable lamps
...use the optical zoom set to about 2X
.....move back and reframe the subject
...set the camera to "aperture priority" and
.....select f2.8 (to blur the background)

If you are talking about table top photography:
...avoid flash - use some type of bright
.....portable lamps
...use a tripod
...set the camera to shutter priority and select a
.....slow shutter speed (to increase depth of field)
...focus on the exact spot you want to be sharpest
