So, does someone have this by now? the ad I saw said you could buy one for yourself if you also bought one for their program.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of giving computers to kids in households that don't have television, electricity or indoor plumbing - seems they have more urgent "needs" than all that advertising to make them want things they're better off without (though I suppose their parents also don't have credit cards, so they can't subscribe to the porno sites).

So, what's it got? what can it and can't it do? Is it upgradeable?
And what about the newer version made to run Windows?

You might find that

where you're at, but you won't find them that cheap around here, not even at WalMart. The choices here are Walmart, Office Depot, Radio Shlock, or drive 50 miles to Circuit City

If you're implying it's not a real laptop, you should just say so, and explain your reasoning.
It looks to be small, light and built for rough handling, and cheap. Maybe, appropiate for a young child?

I can shop online and have it delivered. Zero miles.

Can you explain why I'd pay more for less?

What you would do or want
by Jamfan55 / May 16, 2008 9:10 PM PDT

has nothing to do with the original question.

When you deal with local merchants on a face-to-face basis, you get to see the actual physical product BEFORE you buy it, examine it in detail, and ask questions. Returns are a lot less hassle and expense too

and if they jerk you around/cheat you, you have the additional service option of physical retribution, lol.

You asked.

"So, what's it got? what can it and can't it do? Is it upgradeable?"

The web pages about them are very accurate. I've been to Fry's and other places to try it out. So what's it got is exactly as stated. Nothing to add here.

As to what it can and can't do is too open a question. I'm a programmer and can make the machine do just about anything so the question should not be so open but list what you need it to do beyond what the usual articles list.

The upgrades are widely noted. If you get it already upgraded then there is no upgrade possible. But then again some enterprising soul could find a way to add the Wii controller and so on. Add some focus to your questions.

"And what about the newer version made to run Windows?"

And yes it does. Benchmarks and comparisons are ready for you to read on the internet. If you are asking me to put those in my replies then I will fail you.
