I hope you have already been able to fix this without too much trouble. I was working on mine today and I got online to find a replacement part when found your post.
You do not need to remove the dash. You can access the hazard light thru the center Vent and by removing the cowl around the instrument Panel.
The center vent will come out by carefully sliding something flat between it and the dash. Be gentle to avoid breaking the spring brackets. It should come off fairly easily. The cowl can be removed by loosening the 2 screws located at the top and then releasing the wire connected to the trip reset button. Both of these things are pretty simple to do.
The hazard light button should be attached by 3 screws; 2 on the right and 1 on the left. I don't know the details of what is wrong with yours but getting to the unit shouldn't be to hard.
Good luck, I sure hope you figured this out b4 you made more work for yourself.
P.S. I think that I was using a 9/32 socket for all of the screws. 5 total
Hello, good people, First time you have seen me on this forum. My GrandDaughter has this 2000 Olds Alero. I think something was damaged when She bought it used. Who would check that 4-way flasher out when looking at used car
This switch is push button on the dashboard. Today she turned her Hazard flashing lights on and somehow the switch button fell loose and is down behind and inside the dash somewhere. The lights are flashing, and she was afraid it would run the battery down. I drove 35 mile down there and found a fuse I could remove and turn the lights off. Now, the turn signals won't work. Remember the hazard switch is stuck on.
2 Question - Any idea how to jury-rig that mess and get turn signals?? And second I couldn't lay on seat and get my hand under the dash from the bottom and even touch where the problem is. the q. is... Is it going to be necessary to remove the dash to replace that switch??
Thanks for any Help
