Question

Older HP Pavilion Elite m9040n computer and network

Mar 31, 2015 12:42AM PDT

I don't understand all the new wireless stuff, so here goes.
I have been running this computer on a system that has a modem and router. I have Comcast. I bring a coax cable from wall outlet to my modem. Then there's a coax cable coming from my modem into my router. I have a cat5 wire going from router into the back of my computer. I have a cat5 wire also coming from my router going into the wall outlet that feeds over to the back of my new Smart TV. I have a Comcast cable box connected to the wall with a coax cable. Also from this Comcast box I have a HDMI cable going into TV. I pick up channels thru my HDMI for Tv and wireless from router for internet service. So is my computer running of a wired connection or a wireless connection? I unhooked the cable going into the back of my computer coming from the router and lost access to the internet. My computer is supposed to have an 802.11 b/g wireless USB adapter card.
So what I'm asking all this for is to get my network system hooked up to support all the equipment in home.
I've had for a few years now a blue ray wireless DVD player that works thru my routers wireless connection that works fine.
I've installed a new Smart TV and the internet Smart Hub is running off my routers wireless connection. My TV channels are picked up thru cable box with HDMI.
So what I want to do is, thru wireless? Connection is having my computer communicate with my Smart TV. How can I do this with the 802.11 b/g wireless usb adapter card?
I downloaded Samsungs SmartView2 program. When I try to use it, it will send a message to the TV somehow and bring up a window on the TV that has a pin number that I'm suppose to type into computer to get access to TV. So my computer is communicating with TV somehow. Put when I try to send a message from computer to TV to perform something, a message on computer says can perform thru HMDI cable.
This is why I would like to figure out how to get computer to connect to TV with a wireless connection.
How can I perform this task?
Thanks

What is this task?

Why I ask is some want the PC to show up on the TV. That's not what SmartView does. Also, SmartView is buggy in a sense. It doesn't always work.

Maybe another way

So I can't use this program to show a slide picture show from my computer on to my TV screen? That was what I was after without using a thumb drive. Can you explain to me what would be a good way to perform this task? Thanks

The thumb drive is about the easiest and best.

SmartView questions are all over the web. It has many hurdles such as firewalls in the router and PC as well as a Smart Hub account setup. I always defer to Samsung Support on their mess of a software/TV design.

Comcast

I'd give Comcast a call and tell them what you have in mind. A friend of mine has an LG Smart TV, uses Comcast w/Xfinity router...and can access system remotely using the LG smart system to do the same things that you want to do but from what I was told it took a little doing to get it to fly. I guess they were on the phone for a bit..however, it does work.
