General discussion

older cd - newer computer don't mix

Hi, I have a smart start French deluxe cd that worked fine with 98 but now have xp and it won't let me load it. I'm pretty sure I saw directions somewhere on how to get this problem solved but can't find it at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Null, Have You Tried??

Place the CD in the CD-Rom drive. If it doesn't automatically run, then double click on "My Computer", then RIGHT click on the CD-Rom icon, choose "Explore" from the menu. When the Explorer window loads, then find and double click on the "Setup.exe" file that you should see. The CD should now run IF it's compatible with Windows XP..

If it's not,(Smart Start French appears to be compatible with only Windows 9.x and ME) then sometimes you can get it to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode. If that's the case, then find the "setup.exe" file on the CD, RIGHT click on the file, choose "Properties", then click on the "Compatibility" tab. When that opens, place a CHECK mark in the "Run This program in Compatibility Mode", then select the operating system of choice. In your case, that would probably be "Windows 98/ME". Once that's done, try double clicking on the "Setup.exe" file to start the program.

Hope this helps.
