Old win xp hard drive as slave on new win 7 comp issue

Oct 18, 2009 10:52AM PDT

I just installed the hard drive from my previous, Win xp based, computer onto my new computer that I have windows 7 on. It shows up without an issue as drive D but I can't seem to find the content that I know is on there. I understand that programs from my old drive most likely will not work but when I'm searching for files such as word documents or video files that I know are there they cannot be found. What should I do? I've searched over and over using, for example, *.doc for word documents but no luck and I sometimes get a message that I'm restricted from certain folders needing admin access. Please help my ignorance.

slaving w/ SATA
Aug 25, 2010 10:45AM PDT

my motherboard died so I had to get a new pc, old OS W2K and new OS W7. My old hard drive with all my data on it is good, and I?d like to slave it using SATA. The old HD, a Western Digital, reads on the label that ?Master/Slave jumper not required for SATA?. Do I connect the other end of the SATA ribbon (that is not the SATA power plug) to the motherboard plug labelled Secondary IDE?

You connect a SATA disk to a SATA-slot. IDE won't fit.
