Question

Old ram.vs new ram

Jul 3, 2017 9:19PM PDT

I have posted before and havent gotten anywhere, so im posting again with newer information about my problem. At first, i could not get my 2x8gb memory to work..so i turned around and traded those for 4x4gb memory. That hasnt worked. Originally, i had 2x2 gb. Now, i have tried doing the xmp1 on the new sets of ram. Didnt work. Tried maually adjusting the timing and votages...didnt work. Tried just 1 card..didnt work...2 cards..didnt work...4 cards..didnt work. A 2 gb and a 4 gb...didnt work. However, i was able to overclock the 2 gb just by enabling the xmp1. So im assuming its my ram? Why isnt it compatible? I cant even get my computer to run. It freezes on the "windows loading" screen when the logo materializes. It doesnt show up and just sits there. I really need some help because im going on day 3 trying to get this to work. Sad

Ram

Not all ram will work with all mobo's, there are too many variables.

Set your bios back to default/stock.

Use one stick of the new ram....test.

If it does not work move the stick to another slot....test.

If it does not work try a different new stick....test.

If it does not work you either are not inserting the sticks correct or the ram is incompatible.

Return the ram.

Shop here, guaranteed to work.

Not compatible?

I noticed that i have xmp1.. the memory sticks says xmp2.0 ready. I have a intel i5 660...the memory says designed for intel 7/8/9 platforms...would any of that be the issue? Lol

Don't know

If you want to go deep into ram theory, which I don't, you'll find there are many different ways to build ram.

If you ran the test I suggested and the ram does not function then there is something about it that your mobo does not like.

Return it and start over.
