given that the spool files are not in plain text but in some sort of code that the printer can understand.
They may even be aimed at a particular printer.
I wonder if they could be converted to PDF using OS X function of "Print to PDF"

Hey guys, I have some old spool files that were created on a mac OS 9 years back. I no longer have the old printer which was Epson Stylus 740. I wanted to know if there was anyway I could either view what is on these spool files and maybe convert so I can print them to another printer.
I mainly would like to see what is on them and why I saved them since the late 90's. This computer I am running is an old G3 which was updated to run OS X but the latest I can handle is only 10.2 but these were created in OS 9, I believe. Any suggestions? Even if I can just convert them to PDF files. The trick is how to view them without the printer.. I think the files have a suffex of .tmp
Thanks
