Today I have been in a small Apple museum (here in Moscow, Russia). There I saw two old laptops - Powerbook 165 and 180c.
I noticed that escape key on these laptops' keyboards is placed in a very strange and nonstandard position - to the left of spacebar.
Here is a good photo of this laptop. Notice the escape key:

Can anyone tell me why Apple decided to place the escape key there? Whas that a decision for "usability" or they just couldn't find a better place?
