Old PC to new PC

Jul 29, 2004 2:16AM PDT

I am buying a new pc and would like to tranfer some files music, pics, etc from my old to the new. It is several gigs of space. How can I get this done? Is there a cable I can buy to do the transfer?

There are several commerical pgms. that do this. One I know and even has the cable(s) is PC Relocator. I'm sure there are similar pgms. available either at office supply or larger PC stores/outlets. Below is a found googled website, but there are others*NOTE* that link at its website on bottom of text, provides further info/links under FYI:

The "best" solution is to just get a 10/100 NIC for the old system, the new one will probably have one built in, and then a crossover cable. You create a simple P2P network between your systems and using the Windows file sharing facilities can transfer massive amounts of data rather quickly.

It's a tried and true method of moving large amounts of files, and getting help for problems is incredibly easy. If you try some other methods, your resource base for any problems shrinks dramatically.
