old laptop IBM R40e cannot access BIOS

Jun 29, 2009 3:14AM PDT

When I power on IBM R40e, it used to show up an IBM Logo and says to press certain keys to access the setup. Now, I do not remember since when, it does not show this message at all. When it is turn on, the screen is black for a moment and then go right to the Windows. By the way, the system is working just fine without any abnormity though. I have tried pressing the blue key IBM Access, F8, ESC, none of them worked. Actually after the press, the laptop would just give up booting the system at all and stay there dead.

I need to access BIOS because I want to back up the system using Ghost. Can anyone tell me what to do with it? is it because the BIOS battery is running out? Or is it because I used PQ Magic to merge partitions some time ago?

Thanks in advance.
