I agree with the other posters as to possible issues you maybe encountering. I suggest you make the old HD set-up as master under IDE jumpers and then attach to new adapter. The SATA port itself will then ID the HD as required. However, older HDs can make life difficult if trying to do as you're doing. It just maybe too much to ask of the old HD as it was never intended to continue service in such a way. Regardless, that also depends on the adapter supplied, review any instructions on it's set-up as required, otherwise, you've a "non-compatible" situation that will cost more than effort. Also, the 1st SATA is new HD, 2nd SATA is old HD and next SATA port for CD drive. If you can't get it to work, then leave it out, as IMO 1TB is plenty compared to old 40GB. Alas, if you're trying to swap data, make sure the new PC w/o old 40gb is working 100%, then add old HD into mix. Again, if problems, don't install as explained above and other posters.
<span id="INSERTION_MARKER"> I have recently bought a new computer with GA-G41MT-S2P motherboard which has 4 sata ports(WD 1Tb hard drive and CD RW are plugged in). I want to be able to use my old Maxtor Hdd 40Gb which has IDE socket, so i bought an IDE-SATA converter. I have slaved the old hdd as it was shown on the sticker (no jumpers) and plugged it in. Computer wouldnt start. i get the "Memory Runs at Single Channel" notion as usual and where the definition of IDE Channels normally appears (CDRW and WD HDD) i see nothing for a while, than it gets going, cannot load an operating system and tries to boot from CD.
