You can't update a motherboard. You can replace it, but a recent motherboard needs another CPU and another type of RAM also. So in fact, you're building a totally new computer into the old case. It's easier to just buy a new computer that's ready out of the box.

first of all i said upgrade not update secondly i can't afford to buy a new computer out of the box all i am wanting is some advice on a newer ddr2 compatible mother board that can handle a 775 socket for core two qaud processor and that is NOT duel channel and can handle at least 16 gigs of ram

With the same processor and the same RAM a new motherboard won't make any noticeable difference, unless you belong to those 2% of users for which 8 GB of RAM is limiting the performance. But my guess is that you're in the 98% for which 8 GB is all they need.

There have yet to be any upgrades to motherboards that didn't involve a new motherboard and the difference in performance from board to board is usually less than 1 percent. That is, if your motherboard works it's a bad item to change it.

As to the RAM, you didn't write if you checked the product manual to see if the sticks are in the right slots and compatible.

Mobo

Tell the make and model of this mobo.
It should be printed on the mobo.

I have a suspicion you can't put 16GB of ram in that machine.
