about "old people" expecting a discount?
He wanted to know what they had done to deserve it. I bit my tongue and didn't tell him they deserved it for not knocking people like him in the head over all the years they raised them.
I don't expect it, not really THAT old yet, but I certainly think it's a nice thing. If I remember right, it started officially at any chain companies as 65. And many at that age back then, as now, needed any break they could get after they no longer worked, esp if they no longer could work.
I'm amazed at all the different ages you run into for seniors discounts, 65, 60, 55, occasionally 50 even.
BTW for the veterans, if you don't know, try showing any military ID at Lowes when you check out. I don't know when they started it, they don't seem to advertise it or ask at the register, but they have a discount for veterans. Someone at Lowes a few years ago did ask him when he was wearing a Korean War veteran cap. His military insurance card is all he uses I think.
It maybe something others wouldn't readily admit, but you take it as it comes. Yeap, I'm old and getting credit for it or a "discount" at the checkout. Senior citizens that is, at 6% off, which almost covers the taxes if any on food in Ohio, usually none. But, anything else taxable it helps. Of course, I don't push it or ask for it, though I could. Some days are allowed for it at some stores and others do it across the board. We have also the "Buckeye card" here in Ohio which can be honored at stores that accept it. I'm sure other states have this as well. It just surprises me as I don't ask for it, the clerks go ahead and do it anyways, wow ! I saved, $.27, yada, yada. I posted this because i saw my receipt from yesterday and noticed it. -----Willy ![]()
