Okay, I need some expert knowledge on minidv's please :)

I am currently seeking a camcorder for my husband for christmas. I am looking for one that is capable of filming at/after dark, I really like the sony's but the minidv's seem to be all I can find with night shot feature. If someone could recommend a lower-end priced sony camcorder with night shot, I would greatly appreciate it. I really want one with a memory card slot and/or hard disk so I can just burn directly to dvd. I will most likely purchase a ir illuminator to use with it also.

In these forums, some one mentioned DCR-HC62, which looks great and I have found some with great prices on the net. BUT my question is how do minidv's work. I am really illiterate with technical equipment, and I have never used one before, so I really do not know. I know you use the small dv cassettes, but how do you transfere your filming to the computer. Can you plug the camera into the t.v.?? I am reading on firewire, but what exactly is it. Is it just a special cable, or is there extra hard/software along with it....

Geeze I understand that this sounds really dumb, so I am looking for some great teachers out there to educate me and end my fear of minidvs!!!

Thanks so much for your time, I really do appreciate this!
