OK to delete restored .bak files from OE?

Sometime in December, when I first noticed .bak files in my Recycle Bin after OE had compressed files, I was unsure what they were so I "restored" them thinking I had accidentally deleted something that I recognized as OE files. Since then, I've read that this is something being done when the OE files are compacted because of an installed update for OE.

My question is should I go back and now delete the .bak files that I restored or just leave them alone? It would seem they are just taking up space as everything is working normally and no files were lost.

I have 3 e-mail identities and on one of those I found only 6 .bak files restored - at Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{7C8xxxxxx}. When I saw them in the Recycle Bin, there were many more than 6 but these are all I can find that I know were restored even though "Show all Hidden Files and Folders" is selected.

Thank you.
