OK SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS WHO IS KNOWLEDGABLE

May 28, 2006 6:34AM PDT

I just bought but have not opened the box of an AG-DVX-100B now I am going to go to UCLA but next year before that I am going to L.A Film school. Now I need an amazing camcorder to get me through all this, I admit I did not do my research enough before making a decision. I now see the HVX-200 and am wondering if i should take my DVX back and get the HVX, I know the HVX has HD and 24p and also takes the kick *** technology of P2 but I am not sure If I need a camcorder of that quality of course that would put me with a camera at the head of it's class for a while and at least through film school. What do you think I should get? Money is no object.

DVX

Ok, you just got the perfect camcorder for an independent filmmaker. You are worrying yourself over nothing. The DVX100B still shoots in 24p. It just doesn't shoot in HD.

Also think about the fact that the HVX costs almost twice as much.
Then think about how much P2 cards cost.
You can record 4 minutes of the highest quality HD on a 4GB card. The card costs $600. That means you'd have to spend an additional $9000 just to get 1 hour of video with that thing.
I know you say money is no object, but if that were true, you would have bought the Canon XL-H1 right??

My son is going to a film school and we won't be buying any camcorders or such. The school has that gear and you sign it out as you proceed through the courses.

Yes, it's a school near or in LA.

You might want to check with your school.

They might not want you to use your own camera at least for the initial classes. In another year or two, the cameras will probably have changed a great deal.

Right now, it looks like both the Sony and Canon HDs are better than what you are looking at. I also think the Canon is the best one. You do realize, I hope, that the camera is simply the first thing people usually purchase. There are still a lot of other things needed.
