But if I were to face this issue of bookmarks I'd skip the Safari trip and fire up Firefox. Next I'd import the Netscape bookmarks. Here's a primer to get you started. http://www.wesleyan.edu/CTWMellon/Resources/Quickstarts/qsbookmarks.html
Ok, now we know the name of the bookmarks file so armed with that we guide the fox to eat it.
Sorry if this doesn't help.
Bob
I find, now that I have installed Tiger, that not only my bookmarks but quite a few other things that I had in OS 9 (including automatic log-in to the CNET Forums) didn't get transferred when I made the switch. On the other hand, I have a boatload of items that I am sure need to be pitched overboard, things that Tiger doesn't use but OS 9 did.
Question 1: I have my old hard drive, including the Netscape stuff, backed up on a Firewire drive. I had assumed (silly me!) that everything would get transferred into Safari, so I jettisoned the Netscape files and folders from the Macintosh HD on the computer. Still have it all on the LaCie drive. I assume that there's a way to get the bookmarks back. How to do it?
Question 2: I'd like to use Firefox instead of Safari, to the greatest extent possible. Is there a quick way to export my stuff from Safari, once it's been obtained from Netscape, and put it in Firefox? I know I won't have time right away, but I want to do it as soon as I can, within reason. I did find a place to designate default browser, but I'm not sure whether I can simply write in "Firefox" and have everything just get transferred over.
Question 3: Is there somewhere I can go to discover just what I can dispose of from the old system? From the old hard drive? That is, files that no longer do anything or would even run counter to the purposes of the new system.
Question 4: The installer didn't give me the option of Archive and Install, though I still have a copy of the old System Folder on the LaCie drive. Can I transfer things from there to my new system, or do I have to put them back onto the real Macintosh HD? Of course, I don't know what I need to keep from the old folder.
Just the beginning of my questions, but do tell me if I've overstepped the bounds of what is reasonable. I've taken up a lot of everyone's time, I know, just getting to this point.
Many thanks,
Jenny
