General discussion

Ok, another bug. . .

Aug 26, 2008 7:48PM PDT

When you go to the forums the first time on a new day, and that PITA full page ad pops up, and at the top of the ad is the link to "Continue to the CNet Forums", supposedly to bypass the ad, and you click the link, and nothing happens. !!! You have to wait for the ad to finish. Did I mention it's a PITA? Did I mention that ads like this p!ss me off? Did I mention I clicked the link to comment on the ad? And nothing happens. And advertisers that p!ss me off will not get my business?

Ooops, sorry, got off the track of the broken link.

It's in the all-new CNet as noted at the top of the page. And why is there a hyphen between all and new?

Must be grouchy this morning. Oh yeah, that ad p!ssed me off.

you're p!ssed off? I might be wrong, Happy

It's strange. I entered the new site today and didn't get the full page ad you get. Using both IE7 and Firefox3 I got this page straight away, no ads;

That was using this link; http://forums.cnet.com/

Although I had been using the beta, I returned to the old style format a couple of weeks ago because I was having problems with them, but these full, non-beta, formats arrived today and so far, no problems.

I wonder why you did. In FF3 I have the AdBlockPro add-on, and that may have suppressed the ad, but in IE7 I only have the native pop-up blocker turned on. I wonder why your system is different?

(I might have to get these posts edited.to remove the filter words that weren't filtered! I will see what others may say).

Running FF3 with Add/Block. I also have Flash Blocker but had it turned off. I got the new page this morning but that ad popped up. I've had this happen before, but clicking the link to go directly to CNet has always worked. But not this morning.

When it pops up may have something to do with cookies or history as it's only supposed to pop up once a day. I ran CCleaner last night and did some clean up.

I can close out everything and go back to the forums and the ad is not there. It's only supposed to pop up once a day on your first try.
