oh no, here I go again. help???? dumb dumb dumb!

Apr 16, 2004 10:53AM PDT

Okay, a dumb question here I know. I guess I'm getting to be a bit of a pest by now, I beg patience one more time. A video card I'm in need of indeed! But here goes my stupidity none the less. All things appeared to be working just fine, yep even my video card. Settings were set, and things looked mighty fine. That is until I decided to increase my Ram! It all went smoothly really....except my display settings. They are suppose to be set at colour-256 and resoultion 800x600. Well I can't seem to get them back, I keep getting a blue sceen with errors. So I set the resolution one setting below, and its great, well tolerable. Problem now is "HELP!?" my desktop has shifted over to the left and all is black to the right???? Don't laugh at me--how do I fix it??? Once again I'm lost. -Thanks

Re:oh no, here I go again. help???? dumb dumb dumb!/it's your monitor

Sounds as if you need to locate and center the desktop using the monitor controls. Before doing this, make sure your system knows the brand and model of the monitor so it can optimize the display settings. You may need to find a driver for this as well. The driver defines the monitors capabilities such as resolution and refresh rates at various resolutions. Once you have matched the video card and monitor properly, you can adjust for best image and then center the display using your monitors own built in adjustments.

How Much RAM and What OS?

-----------

Since everything was working fine until you loaded more RAM, then the problem has already been isolated for you: Increased RAM.

How much RAM do you have installed? What is max RAM allowed by motherboard manual? What OS are you using?

Reduce RAM to 512mb and see what happens.

It seems in frustration one can think of only the most complicated solutions & forget the obvious. Monitor settings it was, and as I said my face is red. I think I've got all things as they should be. As for the ram that I added, I didnt want to push it and only added 128mb, seems to be content with it. Once again thanks for all of your help and support. Promise not to be a pest again...well that is until I get into building my dream computer from scratch . lol Wink

what you must do is right click on a blank part of your desktop, then hit property. now you should be in your the area were you cant set your screensavers, or background or themes ........click on desktop settings and change your resolution back to were you like theme I guess 800x600 then hit the apply button. and after that let your system reboot to keep the new settings .........after your system reboots your problem should be solve. ....DRAGONFST
