OH MY GOD, LAST RESORT!

Jul 14, 2007 7:04AM PDT

Hey people!

I need some help, I really relly really really do!

I am trying to create a sound track for a digital animation..in order to do this I need my MIDI keyboard to be installed and working.

I have been on the internet now for about 12 hours trying to sort this out.

Basically I have identified and obtained the drivers I need to install for the USB Audio Device, but the problem comes when installing them...

...Everytime I plug in my USB cable into my laptop, XP identifies the USB and installs the generic USB Audio Device drivers..

...I NEED TO BE ABLE TO PICK MY OWN DRIVER...however XP does it for me...

..Further research shows that Plug and Play may be at fault, however I have disabled it and SSD from my "Services" list by popping "services.msc" into Start->Run..

..I have also downloaded "Plug n Pray" and disabled it that way but it still remains the same..

..I tried to simply update the driver by askin XP to search in a specific folder which holds the driver but bloody XP says "The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you already have instaled"...

..WHAT CAN I DO? XP IS TAKING THE MICKY OUT OF ME!!

..I will be eternally grateful to the person/people whp help me sort this!

I can't read what usb device you are trying to install or what midi keyboard you have.

Sorry,

Bob

You have to install the driver first, then plug in the midi device. What type of driver file is that ? Is it an .exe ?

Hey guys thanks for the response..I think I need more help than i thought i did.

The drivers I though were right, aren't, and it wasn't .exe.

Apparently I need a MPU401 driver for External MIDI or something.. Anyone have any idea where I might get this?

It's a Casio Keyboard, and the cable I have is a simple USB one end with a lil blue box in the middle and a midi in and midi out cable at the other end.

Have you....

...contact Casio on what is suitable, and what to do ? That is not simply a "simple" USB cable. You probably also need a driver for that, and another driver for the Midi drevice.

Looks grim but here's how to force which driver.

1. From the Start menu, right-click My Computer and then click Properties.

2. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3. Click the plus sign (+) next to the hardware device category. The list of devices expands below the main hardware device.

4. Right-click the device to be updated.

5. Click Update Driver.

6. In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select No, not this time, and then click Next.

7. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

8. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

9. Click to clear the Show compatible hardware check box.

10. If a driver is listed, select the driver from the box under Model. If the driver is not listed, under Manufacturer, select the device manufacturer, and then under Model select the device model.

11. Select the driver, and then click Next.

12. If a Driver Warning prompt appears, click Yes. The driver installs.

13. Click Finish after installation is complete.

14. Check Device Manager to make sure that a splat is not present on the device.

15. Test the device.

Cheers for R. Proffitt for the guide, and thanks to Pudgyone for the link,

Problem is the only link I can find to download on that page is a link to download Driver Detective.

Am I just being stupid here? And I really am appreciative to everyone who has been helping me here!
