Offline packets sent/received

I have removed the wifi chip in my Macbook (Yosemite) on purpose, and when working offline the Activity Monitor shows there are still some packets sent/received, I am wondering how this could be possible?

No I'm not, lol. Probably just checking to see if the wifi is there or not.
