A fancy RV, so everywhere I went I'd have a bathroom, a refrigerator, some food to cook, a place to take a nap while parked at a mall, and maybe visit the movie or restaurant there in the evening after a nap.

a 1957 "Christine" but mine was baby blue. Looked like this one.

oil, tools, spare tire, sleeping bag, blanket, inverter, gallon of water, fix-a-flat several cans.

A 1950 Chevy or a older model Checker cab.

I'd buy a tesla model S so I could fit my family and It would be fun to drive. Or maybe a AMG E63 S wagen, love me some station wagons

I Purchased a 1987 Nissan Sentra it had these aweful rims that at the time I thought were cool for the simple fact that they weren't stock.

I keep gloves, oil, window cleaner, microfiber rags, roll of paper towels, and a first aid kit

I'd be a jaguar F type S convertible

I'd be driving a 1954 Mason-Healy, the same limited edition roadster that
Clark Kent (George Reeves) drove to the Daily Planet in the 2nd season
of "The Adventures of Superman". If money were no object; I've read that there were only 500 of these cars ever made in that year.

The first car I ever owned was a 1968 Buick Skylark, a counterpart to the Oldsmobile Cutlass, but with different trim.

I keep tools in the trunk. A floor jack with green-colored towels to handle the jack's rough edges, a tire inflator, and a green Dollar Tree basket for groceries. And a quart of oil.

If I were a car, I think I'd like to be The Green Hornet's Black Beauty, with Bruce Lee as my chauffeur.

The ideal restoration would be a 70's Chevy Malibu, 4 door, copper-colored with a black vinyl top, and AMC's Barcelona package for the seats and interior.

This vehicle's most important characteristics would be its quick response and its whisper-quiet operation--like an electric lift truck. Careful mounting and a special dual muffler and high tech low noise tires would help accomplish this.

I gave up smoking years ago; but pipe dreams die hard.

I long for a clean cabin and dashboard

I want a car without anti-lock brakes, bluetooth, satellite radio etc. Stick shift or automatic are OK but auto is a little better at my age. A plain AM-FM radio is fine but mostly I'll have it turned off. I want windows that provide good vision all around rather than these low and narrow types. In the trunk I'd carry jumper cables and a tire pump...that's tyre to any British here and, of course, the trunk is the "boot". I would like a care that handles well rather than feeling like a boat on choppy water. I want no drive by wire technology either. I believe that too much technology in a vehicle can actually lead to distractions and more accidents. Without so much to take our minds off of the road, we'd not need to surround ourselves with marshmallows for protection. We now seem to design a car for "when" we have accidents and not "if". Keep it simple.

The first car I drove was a stick shift Pontiac Tempest. I took my driver's exam in an MG-B and was able to get my turn at the wheel of a Jaguar XKE and several Porsche models. Of course I couldn't own these so my first purchase was a 1972 VW Beetle...a poor man's Porsche, so to speak. It was plain and simple with no power anything. It had an engine I could work on. I could even remove it to replace the clutch and throw-out bearing when needed. I carried tools and a few parts under the rear seat and sometimes they came in handy. It was easy to drive and park but a bit thin on some comfort features such as good heat on Winter days.

While I'd not want another Beetle at my age, I wouldn't mind driving a car that had a simplicity similar to that car.

A basic car would be great

The market should have one, maybe called BasiK, or Basiq. You forgot on thing, which bothers me everytime I get in. I want a windshield that isn't laid back at 45 degree angle so I can get into the car without banging my head on the pillar that holds it. I want to be able to enter the vehicle without being a contortionist!

Yes. The dash occupies a lot more real estate than ever. Marketing may tout great leg room but knee room is often scarse. This is particularly true on the passenger side of most cars I'm seeing.

because I liked the leg and knee room in the old '76 Dodge. Eventually with children older and their friends I moved over to a van, but I have a hard time getting into wife's Buick, and it's a larger vehicle. I have to drop below my knee's ability to hold me, and then fall back into the chair and finally scoot the rest into the seat and then move the seat back up again, just to get into it and still manage to nearly twist my neck off to get into it and hit head on front windshield pillar. I'm only 6'1" and I hate to think how difficult it must be for taller people. Maybe they prefer larger vehicles, or convertibles? Now there's an idea, open roof, get in, then close roof.

Hi everyone, some of you may know me already know me as the CNET Forum admin. I also overlook CNET's community on our site. I'm super excited about Roadshow site as I have always been into cars ranging from car stereos to street racing. I love old school cars and new modern cars and new auto technology as well.

It would be a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari

But for all practicality, it would be a Tesla Model S. It's a roomy family sedan to fit all 5 of us. It's aesthetically pleasing to my eyes, it has all the tech bells and whistles of today, doesn't rely on gas, and most importantly--for the speed demon in me, it's fassst! I drove my friends Tesla and I love it.

The first car I owned (not my mom's Plymouth Volare station wagon) was a 1970 VW bug--which was all tricked out (Cal bug style). It was lowered, had dual carbs on a 1776cc engine with a race transmission, custom paint job, interior, and a nice and loud stereo system. Something like this, but a bit more fancy and lower:

If I ever have time and money, I would buy a 56 VW bug with a rag top or a 63 21 piece window VW bus and fix it all up.

I'm by no means a prepper, but I like to be prepared for the unexpected. In my all my cars, I have a set of tools, jumper cables, flares, water, flashlights, first aid, water, powerbars, emergency blankets, bungee cords and rope, etc... all stored in a small duffel bag. You never know where you may end up and stranded.

I'd probably be something like this:

About the VW

When I got my '72 Super Beetle (Baja edition) my dream was that it would someday become a Meyer's Manx. I played with the bug a bit by adding bored out cylinders, longer throw rockers w/titanium push rods and even added a dual Weber carb system that was impossible to keep in sync and completely unusable during Ohio winters. Eventually I learned that the factory engineers were better at this and returned the engine to stock. I sold the car and never made a dune buggy out of it as Ohio remains very thin in the area of beaches and sand dunes. As for money being no object, I'd still buy something simple that was sparse of electronic gizmos and doodads. I prefer good vision, handling in the turns and traction on slick roads. I don't think the Ferrari could give me item # 3 so I'll save the money and put it into something else.

I agree with you on the electronic gizmos and doodads, "if" it were my project car. With modern cars today, you can't tinker much mechanically unless you start tapping into the ECM.

VW bugs were simple and pretty straight forward and parts were abundant back when I owned it--not sure about now. And yes I do remember those pain in the ass dual Webers, I had to sync them all the time.

You are also right that keeping things stock in a car is the way to go --much more reliable and less headaches, but then again what's the fun in that? Devil

I was autocrossing in my bug. It was lots of fun but my modifications pushed me into a class where I wasn't very competitive. I spent too much money and too much time with the engine out trying to get one or two extra HPs but to no avail. The Weber carb issue, I think, had to do with the linkage and engine expansion. You had to sync the carbs with the engine hot but this caused problems with the idle speed and low end acceleration. The Beetle, if you recall, had a permanent oil bath air cleaner. Attached to it was a hose that took heat from the exhaust manifold heat exchanger and directed it into the air cleaner. This was imperative in cold weather...which you don't have much of in Hawaii. In Ohio, the stock air cleaner was the only way to go when weather turned cold. This meant changing my carb back to the old Solex once Summer passed.

It was fun but, as my family grew, priorities changed...and my wife wasn't happy having me mix a meatloaf with my hands after working on the car. Happy

I'll be doing most of the daily news write-ups, and for the time being, I'm also the primary user of all Roadshow social media accounts. If you see a comment and say, "Man, whoever wrote this is a real weird guy," I appreciate the compliment.

Without further ado, let's answer some of these questions:

If money was no object, what would you be driving today?

My girlfriend's side of the garage would be a Euro-spec Volkswagen Golf GTI SportWagen and a Jeep Grand Wagoneer (the old one, not the forthcoming new one). My side of the garage would contain a Kanjo-themed EF Civic hatchback with a K20 swap, a Ferrari 458 Italia and a first-generation Range Rover.

What was the first car you owned?

A 1990 Ford Escort LX sedan. It was my mom's car before it landed in my 16-year-old hands. I called it "Antiques Roadshow." Eight months after I took possession of it, the engine's internal components staged a prison break through the side of the block and sent it to a (not at all) early demise.

What do you keep in the trunk of your car?

Spare tire with jack, small snow brush and ice scraper, emergency kit (blankets, survival-kinda stuff), and that's it. I don't like having a bunch of stuff bouncing around back there.

Hi Everyone,

I have been a car enthusiast since childhood and If money was not an obstacle I would be driving an Aston Martin or Ferrari ! Happy My First car was a 1988 Suzuki FX (pic attached) I keep a lot of tools, backup for fuses, bulbs, water and necessary emergency stuff in the trunk. If I was a car I would be a Mustang GT Happy Powerfull and Manly ! Grin
