office2003 document writer

office2003
win2k/ntfs
Network drive on win2k pc/NFS

office2003 is loaded on a win2k pc that uses NTFS. Documents are created under document writer and saved as .mdi file on network drive which is NFS. Document saves just fine. No problem.
Problem happens when you open the .mdi file again with document writer and make updates to it and then try and save it again. It seems to save but it actually does not save the updates.
I'm trying to figure out if there is something with the document writer crap that isn't compatible with UNIX NTS

Never used the MDI mode so I can't tell if there's a bug there.

I will share we finally ejected NFS for SAMBA (for PC connectivity) but that was about 1998. Did SUN keep going with pcnfs?
