Office Software for Linux

Sep 28, 2005 12:34PM PDT

Hi, Im currently migrating from Windows XP Professional to Ubuntu 5.10 and I don't know what Office software I can get for the Ubuntu OS. Also will I lose all data I currently have, If I want to dual boot both WinXpPro and Ubuntu?

Try Open Office

Read about it here: http://www.openoffice.org/

I wouldn't be surprised if it is included with Ubuntu. The Open Office suite includes everything I need and more, and it can open and save in Microsoft formats.

Will you loose all of our data? You shouldn't. Most modern Linux distros make it very easy to format/reformat (depending if you are using one hard drive or two) your hard drive and dual boot. A simple Google search will bring up much on exactly how to go about this. No matter how easy it has become though, I highly recommend backing up everything you can't afford to loose, because sometimes things just don't work the way you hope.

Hope that is of some help - Gary

Ubuntu does have OO

Yes, Ubuntu comes with OO installed by default, and it's all you'll ever need. It's a lot easier to use then MSO too.
