office program confusion

this is a reply to a previous thread about an office software problem. someone posted a reply to my thread basically accusing me of "stealing" a copy of microsoft office 2003. my computer was brought to a reputable repair deput in my home town where it had the hard drive completely wiped clean to start from scratch because of a severe virus problem when it was only about two weeks old and we knew nothing about virus protection. we had not even installed one yet. he then had to reload all previously installed "LEGAL SOFTWARE". i could not find my office disc so he loaded it from another. there is nothing illegal about that. i paid for my right to use the program and that is exactly what i am doing. and i resent the fact that someone would accuse me in a public forum of doing something like that. i barely know how to surf the web let alone find a way to pirate copyrighted software. so i hope whoever screens these postings will allow this one to stand as a warning to others who use this site.....get your facts straight before accusing other users of wrong doing. thx rick

It's legal if ...

you used the license key you paid for, and that was mentioned on the CD you couldn't find. That's quite possible, if the repair shop used a program like Belarc Advisor to find it in your registry before cleaning the hard disk.

It's not legal if you used a license key you didn't pay for.

As long as you're not clear about that little detail, we can't get the facts straight due to lack of the facts.

It's quite possible, by the way, that you need that Office disk again if you install some service pack or security patch or even a new feature in the future. Better go and search for it.

And I note ...

an unexplainable difference between
"a reputable repair deput in my home town. i could not find my office disc"
and
"a person who had to repair my computer once. so i do not have the disc. he has moved away."
in your previous thread.

If there's any confusion, it's caused by your own contradictory statements.

Reputable repair persons, by the way, don't walk away, but give the support you now seem to need so badly.

Yes, that's a real problem.

Some "helpful" support people place owners in harms way by installing illicit copies of not only Office but sometimes the entire OS. Even if you didn't do that, your post sadly falls under the forum policies where we can't help such thrown into that position.

-> When you get your Office CD maybe then we can attempt a repair. It's sad the person who did this to you left you in such a position.
