Office Home and Student 2010 has hijacked Outlook 2007

Dec 4, 2010 2:52AM PST

I had a copy of Outlook 2007 (stand alone) on my computer. When I installed Office 2010, it suddenly upgraded Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010 and said that this was a trial Outlook and said I'd have to purchase Office Professional since this was a 30 day trial.
How do I get Outlook 2007 back?
I'm using Windows 7 Professional.

That's strange

Office Home and Student includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote. And it doesn't include Outlook.

I'd start with a reinstall (or remove and install) of Outlook 2007 from the CD. If that doesn't fix it, contact your local Microsoft office to see what they advise.

I've been hijacked too

I also allowed a trial version of Outlook 2010 on my XP system. It has reconfigured my profile so I cannot access it. I uninstalled and reinstalled my Office 2007 version, and now I have NO EMAIL RECORDS at all, no contacts, no nuthin.

But my question is, when you say to contact my local Microsoft office, whatever to you mean by that? I live in Albuquerque; no local office here, and online Microsoft is silent on this subject. There is nothing on the MS site about this and no thread aside from this one that I've found regarding this problem.

What did you mean by contacting my local office? Is there a retail arm of MS that I've missed?

Thank you!

Ah, a Microsoft plant, eh?

I archive and back up all the time. In Outlook. I don't export. I shouldn't have to. I'm amused that you're making this my problem.

But the bigger question is, why would MS not offer a graceful exit from the "trial" version. It's supposed to be a trial, after all. Not a hijacking experience.

So if you are with Microsoft, would you let your superiors in the hive know?

Thanks

Office Home and Student 2010 has hijacked Outlook 2007

I posted the original message. On my Home and Office CD there is a copy of Outlook 2010.
Outlook 2010 had all my contacts and email so that was ok. However, could not uninstall so just took deep breath and inserted Outlook 2007. This worked but everytime I click on icon get "the mail profile was created with a newer version of outlook". although I can't get rid of the message this is a small price to pay.

For starters you'll need your Outlook 2007 CD.

You didn't reveal where that was in your posts.

-> But let's find out if anything survived.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070 and ONE OF THE FIRST TOPICS is how to backup your PST file.

This is one of those topics that can inflame users but let's move on. Where is that backup copy?

The horse is out of the barn

I have my Outlook 2007 CD. Rather, Office 2007 Professional. That's what I used to re-install. I've looked for any .pst extensions (wishing I were back at DOS again) but haven't found the backup files. Any suggestions?

The real issue is, though, how to rename or somehow morph the hijacked profile back into 2007 shape from its present distortion into 2010 Outlook. The uninstall simply removed the trial version, leaving me crippled.

About dos. We can use that!
Dec 18, 2010 6:02AM PST

Open the command line and CD to \
Here's the command I use.

DIR *.PST /S/A/P

If there is a PST we might find it.

And in case you need to know, NO ONE I KNOW has moved from Outlook 2010 back to 2007. If this is worth doing, you'll have to call up Microsoft which will not be a free support call.

Thank you!

Thank you. I'll try that!I appreciate your help very much, Bob. I suspect there isn't a fix for the problem, and also that I (and Ann) won't be the only ones.

I've reconstructed my contacts lists and am busy making new history for myself, leaving my email archives in the ever-receding mists of time.

Happy Holidays!

I also am having the same issue.

Plenty of people will be moving from the 2010 "trial" back to their already paid for 2007 outlook. Especially when they have purchased a version of Office 2010 that does not come with Outlook. Duh. I did a reinstall with my 2007 CD and it worked, however, I am now having issues where Outlook 2007 will not edit email with Word 2010. It is looking for Word 2007 and upon not finding it, a lot of my features are no longer available. Such as editing an image in my email. Support was no help Sad

To edit images.

I edit them before I insert them. Mixing and matching Office parts from various versions does indeed find a lack of support. Even I don't expect this Frankenstein collection to work but I can work around it by editing before I insert the image.
