"Office" for Windows 7

Feb 14, 2011 6:52AM PST

Have upgraded to Windows 7, and am finding it impossible to find a compatible free version of an "Office" program that I can install. Had no idea that I would lose so many programs when switching from XP Pro to Windows 7! Only had XP Pro to avoid buying a computer with Windows 7 as am still a novice.
My computer is an ACER Veriton M460.System tool is x64-based.My Microsoft Windows 7 Home Version is Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600.Amount of physical memory is 4GB.Also have 1TB HDD.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Another option - LibreOffice

Pick up where OpenOffice leaves off. The new LibreOffice 3.3.1 is another open source alternative for a free office suite.

You can download this at http://www.libreoffice.org/download. Pick the OS and language. There are many flavors.

Good luck.

ZOHO

ZOHO is a wonderful online Office suite that runs online and doesn't even have to actually install on your computer. You can access your saved files and your preferences, etc from any computer anywhere with internet access. Although I have Microsoft Office 2010, I find myself using ZOHO as my primary office application because it is just easier to use.

On another note: As you try to move from XP Pro to any version of Windows 7 in 64 bit, you will probably find that 64 bit is the cause of your incompatability problems rather than Windows 7. I certainly did and had to format a factory installed 64 bit installation and install 32 bit and everything is smooth now.

Symphony from IBM is a derivative of OpenOffice.org - works well for me.
