You may be suffering from another bug in using 97 on Windows XP. In fact, this is another one besides what might happen when you double-click a .DOC file and the spellcheck that has failed some.
No fix is availble.
But I will offer the Open Office let me continue on without much cost. http://www.openoffice.org

PS. The only issue that would affect Office 2000 and up in this is a printer driver that is not installed or a printer that is not the default.
Whenever I try to change fonts by using the 'Format>Fonts' dropdown menu, the 'Font' dialogue box showing all the fonts on the computer appears. But the fields for 'Font name' & 'Font style' show only the first alphabet of the name or style. eg. 'T' in the case of Times Roman and 'I' in the case of italics. Eventually I get an error message stating "This font style name does not exist".
In spite of this fonts can be effectively formatted through the menu-bar drop-list.
Trying to reinstall Office-97 gives an error message stating "SHELL.dll" not found. I have checked and found that there is indeed a 'shell.dll' in my Windows\System folder. My OS is WindowsXP Home Ed.
Can anyone please help? Thanks in anticipation.
